If you're planning a wedding for 2020, there's no doubt you've experienced some unexpected roadblocks thanks to COVID-19. As couples and families decide on the best course of action to move forward, they're coming across different types of events. Enter: the micro wedding and the elopement.
But what is a micro wedding? And how is it different from an elopement?
A micro wedding is exactly what it sounds like: a very tiny wedding, typically with under 50 guests. An elopement is usually focused on the couple and their union, and standard party elements like guests, a band, or even the party itself are open to interpretation.
For many couples who were slated to get married this year, deciding to move ahead with a scaled back approach or postponing until 2021 can feel overwhelming. The important thing to remember is that you and your spouse-to-be are still celebrating your love for each other, even if it's not how you might have originally pictured it.
Both micro weddings and elopements give the couple the opportunity to focus on smaller, more personalized details that might not be possible at, say, a 200-person wedding. One way to get creative at a smaller event is through desserts. For instance, instead of a traditional wedding cake you can serve each guest an individual mini cake. Or, personalized custom cookies make amazing favors and would potentially be too costly at a larger affair.
If you're having a socially distanced wedding, maybe individually packaged cupcakes or cake shooters (portable cake in a cup! with a spoon!) would be perfect for your guests. There are a lot of options when it comes to sweet treats, and your wedding cake baker or caterer can provide insight into lots of fun and different options tailored to you.
Cake is a symbol of celebration, so whether you're eloping, planning a micro wedding or considering a big shin-dig sometime next year, don't forget to celebrate with something sweet.
